Craig Lane is a freelance performance and lifestyle coach, and health assessor. His career takes him nationally to work alongside some of the largest corporate companies in the world, as well as some of the best athletes in the world.

Craig has coached performance athletes to World and European Championship Podiums, Kona Ironman World Championships, 70.3 World championships, and helped personally develop all athletes beyond their own expectations.

Over the years, Craig has become an ambassador for the sport of triathlon through representing Great Britain all over the globe, in world and European championships, as well as invite only events. However, his passion is coaching, in particular as a participation coach for the club he co-founded in 2013.

Paired with his sporting achievements, Craig has educated himself extensively to combine his wealth of knowledge with experience, to provide his clients with the best possible services they require. Most recently Craig has been involved with Modern Pentathlon GB where he coaches athletes on the World Class Talent Programme and The England Talent Programme, which has produced the current top 3 ranked under 19’s athletes in Britain in the start of the 2018 season.

Craig regularly gets invited back to his old university to provide guest lectures to share his experiences with up and coming sports science students and BUCS athletes. To date, Craig has been rewarded the best coach in Yorkshire 2015 and 2018, his founding club Humber Triathletes has won best club 2015, and also best non-commercial event 2017 with the help of his fellow directors, committee and club members who share the same ethos as himself.

We all know that competing in the sport we love takes serious time and dedication. Whatever your level as an athlete, training takes up a big part your life, so you want to be sure that the training you’re doing will maximise your performance come race day.

It's about making the most of your training - make it count.

You need to have total confidence that your coach knows exactly what they’re talking about; that the programme they set is right for you, that it’s achievable within your lifestyle constraints, and that everything they ask of you is based on experience and science to improve performance. And you need to be able to communicate with your coach if you’re not sure about something or question why they’re asking you to do a particular thing.

At Coach Craig, you can be sure of all these things, because I have been there myself.

I have raced at the highest level and know what it physically takes to do the programmes that I set my athletes. I have made mistakes in training and in races, and I have learned from them, so you’ll be able to avoid those same pitfalls. I have fitted training around a busy lifestyle and I have experienced the dramatic highs and lows that come with this demanding sport.

The support I create takes all of that into account and is based around the same philosophies that have helped many of my GB athletes qualify for World and European championships and achieve age-group podium positions.

Most importantly you’ll be able to train with the reassuring knowledge that you’ll get to the start line race-ready and in the best possible shape.

So if you choose Coach Craig to help take your performance to the next level, you can trust in the programme, the nutritional expertise and the advice that i give you, and i am not just saying that – check out what our athletes think.

performance & fitness testing

Coach Craig can improve your power, speed and performance using Wattbike’s accurate data to analyse over 40 parameters about your riding.

Leave no margin for error when it comes to measuring your performance, as each Wattbike has been engineered to deliver accuracy within 2% across the full range of watts.

It’s currently the indoor training tool of choice for World Champions Lizzie Armitstead and Joanna Rowsell-Shand and the UCI World Cycling Centre.

Monitoring your speed can tell you only so much about a ride, heart-rate monitors can tell you a bit more, but knowing your power output is a quantitative, repeatable way to assess how hard you are actually working.

From a coaching perspective, the flip side is that with power data you can also accurately determine the specific performance requirements of a given event/discipline. That’s almost like being given the answers to the exam questions, except of course you still have to put the work in to reach the targets. But just having that predictor is hugely beneficial and Coach Craig can help you reach

your potential by setting your specific power training zones.

VO2 & Maximal

heart-rate testing

Coach Craig also offers VO2 max testing, or maximal oxygen consumption, this refers to the maximum amount of oxygen that an individual can utilize during intense or maximal exercise. This measurement is generally considered the best indicator of cardiovascular fitness and aerobic endurance. The more oxygen a person can use during high level exercise, the more energy a person can produce.

This test is the gold standard for determining cardiorespiratory fitness because the muscles need oxygen for prolonged aerobic) exercise, and the heart must pump adequate amounts of blood through the circulation to meet the demands of aerobic exercise. Contact me to find out more...

Heat Chaimber TRAINING

Racing and training in the heat places huge demands on the human body. Fortunately, by training in a heat and humidity controlled enviroment, we can stimulate your body to adapt to the higher temperatures and perform more efficiently.

As little as 4 sessions of 45 minutes to 1 hour in duration can stimulate most of the adaptations your body is capable of achieving and allows you to prepare for competition in a hot environment without leaving the UK

Acclimatisation is the beneficial physiological adaptations that occur during repeated exposure to a hot environment. These physiological adaptations include:

Increased sweating efficiency (earlier onset of sweating, greater sweat production, and reduced electrolyte loss in sweat).

Stabilisation of the circulation.

The ability to perform work with lower core temperature and heart rate.

Increased skin blood flow at a given core temperature.
